The Bethel Series is a simple overview of the Old and New Testaments that confronts people with Jesus of Nazareth. My feeling is that anyone seriously confronted with Jesus of Nazareth is going to be transformed in the way he or she thinks about everything. You cannot be confronted with the Christ of the Scriptures without being changed.
“I have always believed that there are no shortcuts to understanding the biblical message. The Bethel Series was written to enhance the student’s understanding of the Christian faith. The basic concept of a simple overview under disciplined training is timeless. It’s proven that.”
Dr. Harley Swiggum,
Author of the Bethel Series
The Bethel Series offers an excellent tool to enhance the biblical literacy within Christian congregations. The study uses a historical approach to the Hebrew-Christian heritage of faith with an overview of the Old and New Testaments. Hermeneutics, the study of the Scriptures in the context of the period in which they were written, brings a great understanding of the biblical narrative.
Churches in 47 denominations around the world have chosen the Bethel Series as their basic adult education tool and have used the option of including and teaching their own theological interpretations. The text is in the language of the lay person and the course is effective in small or large congregations.
The Bethel Series equips disciples by biblically educating the laity. Time has taught us that the Bethel Series is unique in its format of education. Rarely will a Bible study program last 10 or 20 years, but the Bethel Series is now celebrating 50 years of ministry. Regular updating keeps the material current, but the success of the program rests in a format that requires discipline and commitment.
The Bethel Series provides an overview of the entire Bible. At the end of two years, the students will have an amazing understanding of the Old and New Testaments.
Over 6000 congregations are enrolled and more than 1,000,000 lay people around the world have graduated and benefited from the Bethel Series course.
Bethel at Westville Presby
Introduced in the 1980s, Bethel at Westville Presby trained more than 80 of it’s people until the mid 90s when it had almost saturated the congregation. In 2012 the first group of the next generation studied the Bethel Old Testament and a second Old Testament group has followed in 2013.
